Why can't I get peach trees to grow for me when everything else will?

I grow peaches in my home in CA. I think what is happening, is that the place where you plant these trees does not have a good drainage system. Since the soil is heavy clay, you might have picked a spot where the roots remain waterlogged and that is why the tree dies, try picking a spot where after the rain does not flood.
