Need some battlefield expertise?
I'm writing a book, and am in the midst of a battle scene. The characters are setting a trap for the enemy: a bait and switch operation. There are five human characters (with supernatural abilities), one lion-sized cat, and one K-9 unit taking on entities with less-than-human intelligence and less experience, but numbers far on their side. All of the human characters are mortal: I should make that plain. Landscape is a forested hilltop, complete with a house. The house will be fitted with a decoy as enemies arrive primarily from the North and West. How far from the decoy should they be? How and where does one hide when lying in wait for this sort of operation? How is the attack coordinated? In what situation could these characters possibly hope to survive? How long could the characters feasibly hold out without reinforcements?
