USB device not recognized network adapter...?

This is a question for computer tech's or anyone who has expertise with computers. Sometimes My network USB adapter is not recognized by my computer. I try unplugging it and plugging it back it but it shows up as an Unknown device, but when i restart my computer, it detects it. Does anyone know how to fix this? is it a motherboard problem? do i need to install new drivers? thank you.
